Lumut Yums Locals Crave

Lumut is a coastal town in Perak, Malaysia, about 2 hour drive from Ipoh, the third largest city in Malaysia.

It was my third time in Lumut for work and the first time I decided to extend the weekend instead of going back to Singapore, and thankfully I did, else I would not have tasted the glorious (and cheap) food our local colleagues brought us to!
Here are my top 4 picks:
1. Restoran Yang Yang Hong 样样红海鲜酒家
The Chinese residing in Lumut are mostly of Hock Chew (Fuzhou) descent, hence there are several restaurants selling Hock Chew cuisine.
This restaurant is opened by a family, it is like tze char style, and the portions are HUGE, even if you ordered just a small one.
Our colleague told us that in the past, most of the locals worked long hours in the rubber plantations, that's why they eat huge portions.

These few dishes are their signature:
- Red Wine Mee Sua
Heavenly soup with red wine but drink it fast as the mee sua will soak up the soup

- Crispy Oyster Egg Omelette
Egg is very crispy and tapioca flour isn't used unlike Singapore style omelette

- Fish Maw Soup
My personal favorite! Soup is sour and thick, and fish maw (stomach) was so chewyy
- Yam Pork Belly
Take one slice of yam and pork belly each, they will both melt in your mouth
We further ordered a vegetable dish and a Hokkien Mee and were extremely satisfied and full, given that all five of us have a rather big appetite.
For that much food, we only paid RM139! (equivalent to about SGD9/ pax).

Usually opens for dinners only
2. Kim Du Li Fish Bee Hoon 金都里鱼头米粉

This is located in a coffee shop, just opposite Restoran Yang Yang Hong and opens in the day. The soup has a tint of raw fish taste but very very fresh. You can choose to add milk or without.

The sambal chili is spicy but sooo good. They sell their chilli separately too
They sell fish cake, fuzhou fishball and meatballs too, and I have to say the fish cake was probably the best I have eaten in my life. It was crispy on the outside and tender inside.

If I did not recall wrongly, the price was approximately RM 7 (approx less than SGD 2.50 per bowl)!

3. Restoran Gu Leng Do 牛奶诸茶餐室

Locals like to frequent this coffeeshop for their breakfast fix.
They are famous for their handmade dry noodle 手工干捞面, and you can add wonton too.
Again, noodle portions are very huge and if you will just like to try, I recommend to share one bowl.

We added a Tom Yum Yong Tau Foo to share too

As you can see, prices are reasonably cheap! RM3.50 for a small bowl of A LOT of noodles, and just add a few dollars more for the wanton soup.

I do not have their exact address, but it's also located in Sitiawan. See map below extracted from their facebook page:

4. Cheng Li Biscuits 新城利饼家
This shop sells traditional hand made biscuits baked over charcoal. They have biscuits with or without meat filling, but it's only good while it's piping hot! If not it will harden up like a rockkk.

There are tons of other good food in Lumut area. The ones I have recommended are very much local favorites too, so if you are doing a road trip up to the North of Malayia, Lumut is a hidden cheap food haven which you can consider stopping by for one day!
